# Deliver a project and reconcile its costs

Organize the work sold to a customer, follow tasks and milestones, and trace purchasing and manufacturing costs through the project analytic account.

## Before you start

Define the project manager, the customer, the delivery scope and who can see the project. For the project or task to be created from the sale, configure on the service product the creation of a project or task when the order is confirmed, and review the invoicing policy.

## Step by step

### 1. Create and assign the work

In Project, create the project or open the project or task generated by the confirmed service sale. Check the customer and the link to the sales order line. Create the tasks with an assignee, a deadline, a stage and an acceptance criterion. Set up recurring tasks or the project email address when these intake methods are part of the process.

### 2. Follow execution and acceptance

Move the tasks between stages as the work progresses, record blocking issues and schedule follow-up activities. When planning dates, take the approved absences of the team into account. Review the deliverables with the person responsible before closing tasks or marking billable milestones as reached.

### 3. Link purchases and production

Check the project analytic account in the project settings tab. On the project purchases, enter that account in the analytic distribution of each line; on manufacturing orders, set the same analytic account. Open the purchase and manufacturing buttons at the top of the project to check the linked documents, and compare the costs already billed with the pending ones.

### 4. Invoice and close the cycle

Check the billable quantities or milestones and create the invoice under the agreed policy. Compare the project revenue with the committed and actual costs. Before closing or archiving the completed work, review what the customer sees in the portal and any requested ratings.

## Expected result

Deliverables, sales and costs are linked to a project with defined owners and acceptance.

## If something goes wrong

If a purchase or manufacturing order does not show in the project costs, check that its line carries the project analytic account in the analytic distribution, that the document is confirmed and that it belongs to the same company as the project.
